Bought this for bagels and it's become my go-to for tomatoes too — the 5-inch size gives way more control than my old 8-inch slicer. The AUS-8 steel still feels sharp after a couple months of daily use.
The serrated edge on this thing cuts through ripe tomatoes without squishing them at all, which my old smooth knife never managed. AUS-8 steel holds up well too — still sharp after a couple months of near-daily bagel duty.
The 5-inch size is what sold me — it's small enough to keep on the counter without hogging space but still handles tomatoes and sandwiches cleanly. The serrated edge bites into ripe tomatoes without squashing them, which my old smooth knife never managed.
